Temporary trim dressing refreshes appearance; Headlight Boost’s trim restoration is a clean-and-dry, wipe-applied treatment for eligible faded exterior plastic. Neither repairs a cracked or broken part. If your black wheel arches or lower cladding look gray, the useful comparison is not simply which option looks darker immediately. It is what surface you have, how it is prepared, and what the service actually includes.
What an appearance dressing changes
A dressing is an appearance-focused option for refreshing color or sheen. It can suit someone who wants a cosmetic touch-up and is comfortable maintaining that finish. Do not assume every dressing is greasy, or that every bottle labeled “restorer” represents the same process.
For example, one manufacturer’s trim-product description emphasizes rich color and gloss while also describing a non-greasy finish. Product labels alone are not a reliable comparison. Look at intended surfaces, preparation requirements, and care instructions rather than treating “dressing” and “restoration” as standardized performance ratings.
What Headlight Boost’s trim restoration involves
Our service begins with confirming that the plastic is suitable. The trim is cleaned and dried before the treatment is wiped onto approved areas. This is a surface treatment for intact, rigid, unpainted exterior black plastic, not painting or replacement.
Preparation matters. Manufacturer application guidance calls for clean, dry trim and explains that residue from previous products can interfere with that manufacturer’s treatment. Tell Brian about any recent dressing, wax, or other product applied to your trim so it can be considered during assessment.
The distinction is the defined service and preparation, not a promise that the word “restoration” makes a finish permanent.
Which faded plastic surfaces qualify?
Typical candidates include textured wheel-arch trim, lower door cladding, unpainted bumper trim, and suitable rigid mirror housings. Eligibility depends on the actual surface, not just whether the part looks black in a photo.
Headlight Boost does not use this trim service on rubber seals, soft rubber trim, interior plastics, glossy piano-black finishes, or new, smooth non-textured plastic. Headlight lenses are a separate service. Cracks, missing material, loose parts, and other physical damage need assessment outside a cosmetic trim treatment.
See the trim restoration service page for approved-area guidance before booking.
What the Kia wheel-arch demonstration shows
The real Kia wheel-arch example shows faded textured trim before treatment and a darker, more even-looking appearance afterward. It is a useful visual reference for the kind of exterior plastic being discussed.
That demonstration describes an appearance change on one piece of trim. It does not establish how your vehicle will respond, prove a particular lifespan, or show that damaged plastic has been repaired. Compare the texture and condition with your own trim, then send photos for eligibility confirmation.
A quick checklist before choosing a service
- Identify the material: Is it rigid, unpainted, textured exterior black plastic rather than rubber or painted trim?
- Check its condition: Note cracks, looseness, missing sections, or uneven patches.
- Share product history: Mention recent dressings or other treatments, even if you do not know the product name.
- Photograph the whole area: Include a close-up and a wider view showing the panel.
- Ask about care: Get instructions for the treatment actually applied rather than borrowing instructions from another product.
Fixed trim restoration pricing
For sedans and coupes, trim restoration is $99 standalone or $49 as a same-visit headlight-service add-on. For trucks and SUVs, it is $129 standalone or $69 as a same-visit add-on. These are trim prices, not combined headlight-and-trim totals.
Headlight restoration separately starts at $99 for both headlights, with the quote confirmed based on lens condition and location. Extended travel is confirmed separately. Review service pricing and share your location when requesting a combined appointment.
Common trim restoration questions
Does restoration mean permanent black trim?
No. The service name is not a lifetime claim. Avoid choosing any treatment solely on an immediate darkening effect or an unsupported durability promise.
Should I apply dressing before my appointment?
Leave additional products off until Brian has assessed the trim. Clear photos and an honest description of previous applications are more useful than temporarily darkening the surface.
